The Cochin chapter of the RECCAANIT, formed about 25 years ago, has a strength of over 1000 engineers with expertise in various fields of engineering and management. As alumni of a premier and prestigious engineering institution in the state, we felt that we have some social obligations especially in the field of engineering. Over the years the organisation has strived to address some of the needs of society especially in the field of engineering. For more details click
Around 108,000 students had registered for the Kerala Engineering Entrance examination this year. There are 91 engineering colleges today in Kerala and it is reliably learnt that a few more are on the anvil. While some colleges have celebrated their jubilees, some others are in the infancy, facing all problems associated with that stage. In these circumstances, it is obvious that wide disparity exists among the engineering colleges, whether it is in the quality of education provided or infrastructure available.
When students are offered admission in our engineering colleges, they have very limited information available to make a judicious selection regarding which institution to join. There are no guidelines on the quality of the institution or the expertise they have on any specific branch. In fact, there is very limited information available about many of these colleges which have come up in the last decade.
The Cochin Chapter of RECCAANIT (Alumni of Regional Engineering College, presently NIT, Calicut) decided to address this long pending need of society, by bringing out a rating of engineering colleges which would be limited to colleges where selection is done based on the rank in the Kerala Common Engineering Entrance test.
